Annalise Keating's (Viola Davis) boss could make her life extra difficult in the third season of "How to Get Away with Murder."

TVLine revealed that "Dexter" alum Luna Velez will appear in a major recurring role in season 3. She will portray the role of the Middleton University president. According to the description of the still-unnamed character, Annalise's boss is a "self-assured, friendly, warm and diplomatic" woman. But despite her approachable demeanor, the character might pose a threat to Annalise when the series returns next season.

While there are no details yet on how Velez's character will fit into the story, it could be speculated that the university president could scrutinize Annalise's teaching style, particularly to her chosen five students Alfred Enoch (Wes Gibbins), Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry), Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee) and Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza).

Meanwhile, series creator Pete Nowalk revealed that the backstories of the other major characters will be dealt with in the coming episodes of "How to Get Away with Murder" season 3.

"It's about making their characters feel believable and possible and those are the stories that I really want to continue. I want to find out who Laurel's father is, I want to find out who Michaela's adopted family is and how that ties into who they are," Nowalk said in an interview with Variety back in March.

The upcoming season might also delve into Bonnie's (Liza Weil) backstory, as well as the deeper history behind Frank's (Charlie Weber) character.

"The storylines that I have in my head are very rich and complex, so I don't know when we'll tell them, but I think they are worth seeing," Nowalk said.

Filming already began for the third season of "How to Get Away with Murder," while the premiere episode is scheduled to air on Thursday, Sept. 22, on ABC.
