HTC One M8 Google Play Edition getting Android 5.1 Lollipop update

Lucky owners who have the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition are in for a treat after the company is reportedly rolling out the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop, adding them to the list of select devices in the group of Nexus smartphones and device.

With most Android devices still awaiting the latest Android 5.0 update, such is an added benefit given by Google to folks who own the Nexus smartphone. The announcement was made via Twitter.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the HTC One M8 GPE is about 250MB large and should address some bugs and deliver necessary fixes and tweaks. With the Android 5.1 Lollipop bump, users can expect better animation and of course new user interface features aside from addressing known bugs and problems that the previous Android updates failed to resolve.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop is an OTA update which should be available by now for the HTC One M8 GPE. Hence, it would be best for owners to make occasional checks via the system update settings to see if their device can already apply the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

Among the specific things to watch out for include support for HD Voice for handsets for Verizon and T-Mobile, a better interface when it comes to switching from Bluetooth to WiFi connectivity, anti-theft protection and more.

For those who are unfamiliar with the HTC One M8 GPE, this is a wonderfully crafted device that weighs 160 grams. It features a 5-inch OLED full HD (1920x1080 pixels) display that is encased in a wonderfully molded aluminum shell.

Inside, the HTC One M8 GPE is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and storage options of either 16MB or 32GB. Storage can be expanded through a familiar microSD card slot. It also comes with a 2600 mAh battery which is good for about 11 hours of use.

As for the camera, it comes with an ultrapixel main and 5MP front-facing shooter. Off the shelf, the HTC One M8 is powered by the Android 4.4 KitKat.
