iOS 8.4 jailbreak update: TaiG Tool V2.3.0 released to fix security flaws

Right after the release of iOS 8.4, TaiG announced that its Jailbreak Tool was not blocked. Hours later, Jailbreak Tool version 2.2.0 was released for an untethered Jailbreak of iOS 8.4. Due to personal data security issues, however, a newer version has been released.

Stefan Esser, also known as i0n1c within the jailbreak community, was the first one to take notice of Taig iOS 8.4 Jailbreak Tool's security flaws which enabled apps to become root and thereby, compromise every bit of personal data stored in the phone. Esser brought attention to the issue through a series of posts on Twitter that began on July 1.

On July 2, a day after Esser's news on the flaw, the TaiG Jailbreak team released version 2.2.1, which addresses the setreuid security flaw. On July 3, TaiG released yet another updated version of the tool that integrates Cydia 1.1.19 and is "perfectly compatible" with iOS 8.3 and 8.4.

For people who used version 2.0.0 to jailbreak their devices, a re-jailbreaking is not necessary. All that is needed is an upgrade to TaiG Jailbreak Tool 8.1.3-8.x through TaiG's own portal (apt.taig.com) or from 3K (apt.3kzhushou.com), according to TaiG's help guide.

The jailbreak tool supports the listed devices running on iOS 8.3 and 8.4:

  • iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s
  • iPad air 2, iPar Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, Ipad mini 3
  • iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini and iPod touch 5G
