iPhone 6 release date, specs and features vs Samsung Galaxy S5

Two of the most highly anticipated smartphones of the year can arguably be Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy S5.

With the rumors we've rounded up on the plausible devices so far, we compare the possible specs of the smartphones to come

The iPhone 5S (Apple)

RELEASE DATE:

The iPhone 6 (dubbed iPhone Air) is expected to release some time in the third-quarter of this year. The timing is about right, as Apple tends to release a new handset around fall.

The Galaxy S5 is rumored to launch at the Mobile World Congress on Feb. 24 in Barcelona, Spain.

SPECS:

The iPhone 6 is likely to pack an upgraded 64 bit A8 processor with dedicated M7 chip, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and a bigger screen size. There have been reports that Apple has been testing screens ranging from 4.7 to 6 inches. The iPhone 6 will probably pack a display that is larger than its current 4 inch size, but not as big as a phablet-sized display. Apple is rumored to launch two new handsets this year, including the iPhone phablet, which will probably come with a bigger 5 inch plus screen. The display may also come with hardwearing sapphire glass. The handset has also been rumored to come in a 'liquidmetal' casing.

The Galaxy S5 may pack an ultra high definition 2k quad HD 5inch display with a 1440x2560 resolution, and powered by a 64-bit processor, 3GB RAM, and 4000 mAh battery. The handset may for the first time be offered with an all-metal casing, which would be offered as the premium Samsung Galaxy F series.

SECURITY AND OTHER FEATURES

The iPhone 6 is expected to take further steps to ensure security and has been rumored to feature facial technology, which detects and recognizes actual faces. The iPhone 5S already features a fingerprint sensor. The company also acquired PrimeSense last year, which produces gesture-detecting sensors. This may mean that the phone may come with 3D motion sensors similar to that of the Kinect.

Samsung has been rumored to be testing out a new iris eye scanning sensor to ramp up its security. The Galaxy S5 camera will be even more powerful than it's predecessor's 13 megapixel camera. The camera on the new phone is rumored to match that of the Galaxy S4 Zoom with 16 megapixels and new optical image stabilization feature. It is also set to feature ISOCELL technology.
