iPhone 7 rumors: The next iPhone will reportedly be huge and feature major design changes

iPhone SE, Apple's latest iPhone was launched on March 21 Apple

The Apple iPhone 7 is highly expected to be revealed this September with a complete design overhaul compared to previous models: thin, light and with a huge screen.

According to the latest rumors circulating within the smartphone community, Apple will be doing an overhaul of its iPhone lineup. WCCFtech reported that the upcoming phone will be featuring a 5.8-inch screen, glass material and an AMOLED display. The report added that plastic has its own limitations with regard to design and is not capable of offering much protection when it is already thin.

The report also said that with a larger screen, a larger battery can also be incorporated into the device, which is an important factor for end users.

As rumored earlier, Apple is also planning to use OLED display. This kind of display offers a deeper black color, and since no backlight is needed, it consumes less power. However, this screen type will not be able to make it on this year's phone, although it is rumored to be available by 2017 or 2018.

Meanwhile, about a week ago, an alleged iPhone 7 image surfaced online, showing an edge-to-edge screen, but many iPhone enthusiasts believed that it is an image of the iPhone 6s and magically edited on Photoshop.

9To5Mac added that Apple is said to be planning to take out the 5.5-inch iPhone. Thus, the 2017 lineup will include a 4.7-inch version and a 5.8-inch one, as explained by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Furthermore, with regard to the thinner design, it was also speculated early on that the 3.5 mm headphone jack will be eliminated from the upcoming iPhone models. A Lightning port will then take its place. Plus, with the recent FBI vs Apple case, the Cupertino-based tech giant will be adding more security features on their upcoming phone models, and facial recognition or eye recognition is rumored to be on its way.

Other rumored features of the iPhone 7 are a single fan-out chip to be incorporated in order to reduce thickness further and enable greater packaging density; liquid metal; wireless charging; and a newer generation of processor, A10.

Apple has not said a single word about any of their upcoming devices.
