The iPhone SE was launched early last week and, technically, nobody owns one yet. Pre-orders are being taken but Apple will be delivering them by the end of the month. Several members of the press were lucky enough to have their hands on iPhone review units for first-impression reviews. Generally speaking, the new iPhone SE is superfast in performance, plus it offers a superb battery life.
The iPhone SE is patterned after the iPhone 5s in terms of physical attributes. It looks and feels exactly like one, as The Verge stated in its review. The site added that the phone has a nice weight to it, at 4 ounces.
It is superfast because of the 64-bit A9 chip, the same processor chip in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Additionally, the 2GB RAM has also greatly affected its performance, compared to the same-sized iPhone 5s with only a gig of RAM.
After 12 hours of usage, with lots of activities such as email checking, phone calls, watching YouTube videos, and intermittently being used as a hotspot, there is still 44 percent left on the battery.
The report added that there are a lot of differences from the iPhone 6s, and simply saying that the new iPhone is a 6s in a 5s body is not really fitting.
TechRadar's review stated the same thing about the iPhone SE's performance: it is small but mighty. It opens any application immediately and does not stutter. The latest iPhone's camera also packs the same 12MP iSight sensor as the iPhone 6s, as well as a True Tone flash and Bluetooth 4.2. However, the front-facing camera for the newer phone is just 1.2 MP while the 6s comes equipped with a 5MP shooter.
The Independent also agreed that it is fast, and while it is small, it houses a very efficient processor that is said to perform as well as its bigger-screened brothers. Additionally, the advantage of a smaller screen is less battery consumption. Add in all the best silicon pieces currently available, the iPhone SE is very efficient with its battery usage.
The report added that for consumers planning to upgrade to a newer iPhone model and have concerns about price, the iPhone SE is the best option right now.
The iPhone SE offers a 4-inch display screen with 1136 x 640 screen resolution and offers a 326 ppi pixel density. The processor is an A9 embedded with the M9 motion co-processor and comes with a 2GB RAM. Internal storage is offered in 16GB and 64GB variants.
Apple Stores will start offering the iPhone SE on March 31.
