When "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18 returns with its second episode, the show will have the spotlight on rape.

The long-awaited appearance of United States vice president Joe Biden, who is known for fighting the heinous crime, will take place in this episode, which is titled "Making a Rapist."

The VP will appear in "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18, episode 2 to talk about the build-up of untested rape kits in Detroit.

His appearance on the show will serve as his effort to shed light on the issue of sexual assault, which both he and cast member Mariska Hargitay have worked together to fight.

It was a few years ago when Biden sought the assistance of Hargitay with regards to the said backlog. He did so again after his "It's On Us" campaign where the actress, among other celebrities, participated, leading to his "Law and Order: SVU" stint.

"She has been enormously helpful," the VP stated in a press release (picked up by USA Today) of Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson in the longest-running series.

He also praised "Law and Order: SVU" for paving the way to the formation of sexual violence units and changing "the whole culture of policing."

On his appearance in "Law and Order: SVU" season 18, episode 2, Biden said "This one, I didn't have to act about. This one is just right from the gut."

The episode will also tell the story of a convicted rapist (guest star Henry Thomas) who was acquitted with the team's help after two decades in prison, thanks to new DNA evidence.

Unfortunately, he spent his first day as a free man by committing a "terrible new crime," which pushes the team to find him again. Fin (Ice-T) leads the charge as he was the one who put the guy in prison the first time.

"Law and Order: SVU" season 18 episode 2, "Making a Rapist," airs on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
