The new MacBook Air was not revealed during the recent Apple event that took place on Sept. 7. However, many enthusiasts of the tech brand are still hoping for a release this year, and they might allegedly get just that.

According to a report from BGR, the laptop will indeed launch this year and Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly teased a fall release himself, indicating a new MacBook Air model will be released in October.

A MacRumors subscriber had reportedly emailed Apple regarding the future of the Mac lineup, asking if Apple and Tim Cook had abandoned the series in favor of their other devices such as the iPhone 7 and iPad Pro.

"I love the Mac, and we are very committed to it. Stay tuned," stated Cook in his reply. The report points out that investigations have proven that the email comes from an Apple corporate server, lending to its credibility. It is further hinted that this means Apple will launch not just a new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro but also a new line of iMacs by the time October comes.

While no official news of its specs and features have been released, there are many rumors regarding the 2016 MacBook Air. The laptop is currently rumored to feature a USB Type-C port, Siri integration, and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor that is becoming a mainstay for many Apple products like the iPhone 7.

The 2016 MacBook Air is also expected to feature a Retina display, and it may run on the new Intel Skylake processor or an early release of the upcoming Kaby Lake processor.

Reports also say that the MacBook Air will likely come in two variants. A 13-inch version of the laptop and a 15-inch version are expected to be released, with the prior coming with a suggested retail price of $980 and the latter at $1,100. However, these are subject to change when the laptop officially releases.

Apple has yet to make an official announcement regarding the 2016 MacBook Air and its release.
