MacBook Pro 2016 release date: launch set for late October; to feature higher-clocked Skylake chips

The MacBook Pro 2016 was reportedly in development way before the Intel Kaby Lake's availability, which means that it will most likely stick with the Skylake processor instead.

Before users could complain, Apple is expected to at least tweak the processors that it will put under the hood of its new MacBook Pro so that it will still be more advanced than competing laptops. This is what Canalys analyst Daniel Matte suggested during a conversation with Forbes with regards to the source of the horsepower on the MacBook Pro 2016.

"Even launching ridiculously late with Skylake, Apple can at least slightly improve things over launch-Skylake configurations by using higher binned processors (higher clocks from better yields) and [do other tweaks] that could be done with the motherboard design," the expert said.

The last time the MacBook Pro was updated was back in 2012. Even though Intel Skylake will be used on the 2016 version, it still promises improvement from the last-generation version.

The expectation was that the MacBook Pro 2016 will be powered by the Kaby Lake, the seventh-generation Intel chipset that offers advantages over its predecessor. This changed when IHS Markit Technology director for tablet and notebook PCs Rhoda Alexander claimed that the use of the Kaby Lake is "unlikely" because the laptop was in production during the second quarter of the year.

The hype around the MacBook Pro 2016 is huge, seeing that it will be the first iteration of the laptop in four years, which is why it is important that it will deliver.

However, Apple is expected to compensate on the appearance of the laptop. The Cupertino-based company is going for a massive design tweak by replacing the physical function keys on the keyboard with a digital strip.

This display bar will not only project the function keys but it will also display other controls of several applications such as the iMovie and Safari web browser.

The new MacBook Pro is also expected to arrive in late October with a new report claiming that Oct. 24 will be the big day.
