Microsoft Hololens release date with Windows 10? what to expect

Microsoft HoloLens (Microsoft)

During Microsoft's press conference at E3 last week, the multinational technology company did a live demonstration of its holographic reality-augmenting headset, Hololens. Note that this isn't the first time the Hololens was shown in action. A few months ago, Microsoft also had a live demonstration during its unveiling of the mixed-reality headset and another one about a month ago in the company's exhibition at Build 2015. However, the presentation at E3 was the first to showcase a Hololens' experience while inside of a proper virtual gaming world.

For the public presentation, the holographic headset was showcased using Minecraft. First, Hololens was shown to work without problems using game controllers. After that, the surface display adaptability and its function with hand gestures and voice commands were demonstrated by the presenter after shifting the display from the wall to a tabletop through hand gestures and initiated the minecraft world creation using a voice command.

Contrary to Minecraft's first person point of view when in-game, the Hololens provides a bird's eye view of entire map, with options of zooming in even through walls and almost Godlike status with the ability to initiate events, such as lightning strikes, using a voice commands.

Another demonstration was done on a specially prepared room with only a selected handful of people. The room was patterned to look like the insides of a Halo UNSC ship. The room motif easily matched and fit the Halo presentation. The invited guests and testers were then sent to a briefing room where the Hololens took the center stage and a holographic Sarah Palmer started introducing things. The whole experience was interactive; the Hololens allowed the testers to click on objects and get info on them.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that the Hololens would be ready when Windows 10 is, which is supposedly at the end of July. However, representatives have since retracted the statements and have yet to give a definite answer on when the Hololens will be released. A price tag for the product is also yet to be decided on.
