Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date: Hybrid coming in two sizes, launch with Intel Skylake on Oct. 6

Among the slew of products Microsoft is expected to launch during its Oct. 6 event is the latest iteration of its mega successful 2-in-1 device, the Surface Pro 4. The tablet/laptop hybrid is said to be the most powerful and good-looking one yet.

Microsoft is mum about the device, but the rumor mill claims that the tablet will take up the same form factor as that of its predecessor. But thanks to the Intel Skylake processor under its hood, it will reportedly be much thinner, lighter and more powerful.

The Redmond-based software giant is purportedly keeping the form factor so that users will be able to use Surface Pro 3 accessories on the newer device. More on the design front, rumor has it that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will come in two sizes too – 12 inches and 14 inches.

Users can expect the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 to be lightning fast with the said advanced chipset inside it. In fact, the new-gen hardware from Intel will consume less power, thus eliminating the need for a fan inside the device while keeping it from overheating.

There are also reports that it will pack a GPU that will give it twice the power and performance of the Surface Pro 3. The RAM will allegedly go from 8 GB to as big as 16 GB, which should make for a redoubtable, ultra-fast hybrid.

If that doesn't sound colossal enough, the storage options will apparently be 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. There's word that a model with a whopping 1-TB storage is being prepared as well. Lastly, the forthcoming device will apparently make use of the USB Type-C port.

By and large, the device is being pitted against Apple's newly introduced iPad Pro. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is expected to be released alongside the new Windows 10 smartphone flagships and the Microsoft Band 2 on Oct. 6.
