'NCIS' season 14 spoilers: fall in ratings to see show cancelled at season 15?; Ducky leaving after season 14?

Dinozzo and McGee go way back. CBS

Will season 15 be the swan song of "NCIS?" Rumors are abuzz that the show is in danger of cancellation due to a drop in ratings. However, CBS has already renewed the show last year for seasons 14 and 15.

It can be recalled that last season saw the departure of long time cast member Michael Weatherly — who plays Special Agent Tony DiNozzo in the series — to headline his own CBS show "Bull," Parent Herald reported. The actor has said that he is open to returning to the series should they need him back, and this has spurred viewers'' hopes that the fan favorite character will be making a comeback on the show.

It has also been rumored that Cote de Pablo may also return as Special Agent Ziva, but this may be unlikely as she was killed off in the finale season 12, leading to the introduction of Tony to their daughter.

Another cast member who is reportedly considering an exit from the show is David McCallum, who plays Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, the team's medical examiner. According to a report by the Morning Ledger, season 14 could be McCallum's last season with the "NCIS" crew because he is growing too old for the role.

However, the Aussie News Network cited an interview with McCallum in March hinting to the contrary.

"When you have to be at the NCIS set at seven o'clock in the morning, remember the lines and give a performance, I think that's tremendously good for your health. It keeps you alive. I don't want to give that up," the 82-year old actor was quoted as saying.

The report said that it is also a possibility that Dinozzo might drop in on one of the episodes to congratulate his newly engaged buddy Special Agent McGee (Sean Murray) after he popped the question to Delilah (Margo Harshman).

"NCIS" season 14 airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
