Nintendo NX may be a newfangled console but it is all for classic gaming experience. According to a new rumor, the gaming console will make cartridges the thing in gaming again.

Fans who scratched their heads on that one will be easily forgiven since cartridges have been a thing of the past for two decades now, after optical discs that the Xbox One and PS4 use rendered them obsolete.

During the time of these cartridges, players had to blow and even shake them so they play properly. Nintendo NX is apparently looking to introduce these gizmos once more.

The setback with the discs is that they require to be installed first, unlike the cartridges. This meant waiting hours before a player can actually play a game.

They also needed game files to be stored in a hard drive. If the new rumor is accurate, that won't be an issue in the new Nintendo NX.

Media outlets are convinced that Nintendo is actually on to something and could be doing the right thing by bringing back the glory of the good old cartridges for their latest console offering.

The rumor about the Nintendo NX going back to cartridges started when Japanese tech firm Macronix mentioned in its latest financial report of its confidence on the future sales performance of the "NOR Flash," which happens to be involved in some form in the making of Nintendo NX.

The company believes that its current fiscal year will see a surge in ROM sales, owing to the Nintendo NX. Macronix has already confirmed itself as a chip supplier for Nintendo NX so it is believed that the firm is involved in the production of the console by providing the chips for the cartridges.

Macronix was Nintendo's supplier for the cartridge chips harking back to the Nintendo 64. It is said to produce 32GB chips for the Nintendo NX to be sold for the same price as Blu-Ray discs.

The said memory offers four times the capacity of the 32-nanometer chip that Macronix also produced for the Nintendo 3DS. If this rumor is to be believed and Nintendo plays its cards right, media outlets predict that Nintendo NX will blow people away.

The Nintendo NX will reportedly be released in March 2017.
