Phoenix Suns rumors 2016: Steve Nash being considered to replace Jeff Hornacek

The Phoenix Suns have fired erstwhile Jeff Hornacek after giving him ample time to prove that he deserves to be at the helm.

Seeing no improvement, the Suns officially dismissed Hornacek and now, the team is on the prowl for a head coach. Earl Watson, one of Hornacek's assistants, was eventually promoted to interim status; but team owner Robert Sarver wants to add more options on who the Suns next head coach could be.

One name comes into mind, former Suns player Steve Nash.

Nash played most of his career in Phoenix aside from having stints in Dallas (Mavericks) and Los Angeles (Lakers) before officially retiring from National Basketball Association (NBA) ball. He is not connected with the Golden State Warriors where he serves as a part-time consultant.

Hearing about Nash being considered is not surprising. He started doing it with the Lakers with Jordan Clarkson before he was eventually brought on board by Steve Kerr at Golden State.

But is he ready for a full-time gig?

Sarver and Nash have a good relationship and the Suns owner is leaning on the former two-time NBA MVP. Right now, however, Nash doesn't seem inclined to take any head coaching opportunity.

The retired Canadian baller wants to devote most of his time with his family and, apparently, taking on a head coaching role would mean a lot of time away. With that said, seeing him call the shots at this point is close to nil.

With Nash likely out of the picture, the Suns may have to either see what Watson can do or start looking at the available coaches in the market.

Kevin McHale, David Blatt, Tom Thibodeau, Mike D'Antoni, and Monty Williams are just some of the familiar names who have recently been let go, so interviewing them for the head coaching position could be a good idea.

With the season midway, a new head coach may likely come on board in the offseason.

It might just be me, but amongst all the myriad and somewhat valid objections raised, including by Christians, to "Assisted Dying" (read "Doctors Killing Patients" or "Doctors Helping Patients to Kill Themselves"), I haven't really seen the most important, indeed the all-decisive, one.
