The rumor mill for the highly speculated PlayStation 4K is working double time. The latest hearsay about the Sony console points to a better CPU and double the power of the current-gen PlayStation. It is also speculated that it will not go above US$500 and the company is reportedly targeting a release in the first quarter of 2017.
A Neogaf user named OsirisBlack posted last March 30 the details of a meeting where several points went up for discussion. The user also claimed to have been a part of this meeting.
The upcoming console is said to be offered at US$399, but it could go up to US$499 when the CPU is upgraded. Final decisions have not been made yet, hence there are no specification details yet. It is said that Sony does not have any plans of offering a trade-in program for the PS4, but this is tentative.
The GPU is said to be smaller in size but will be offering twice the graphics power of the current console. It will also be running faster with its higher clock speed, but no numbers are available yet. A 4K Blu-ray player will also be included, according to rumors.
Interestingly, the highly rumored console will be able to "upscale games that are not natively 4K."
OsirisBlack also mentioned two games for the PlayStation 4K, namely "Deep Down" and "GOW4," interpreted as "Games of War 4." The Neogaf user also acknowledged that there are several more games but only those two stood out.
The PlayStation VR was also mentioned during the said meeting. A media player app for the VR lounge, which is supposed to have an upgrade, and the games for the Sony virtual headgear, "EVE: Valkyrie," "Robinson," and "GT Sport," were also mentioned. No other details were provided for these.
Also, game developers are already equipped with development kits for the highly speculated console.
The post also contains the point of view of OsirisBlack with regard to the matter, saying, "Also the word 'Sacrifices' is being blown out of proportion. There are sacrifices made when making a console version of a game as compared to a PC game or when making an XB1 game as compared to a PS4 game. Don't expect PS4 games to all of a sudden become [expletive] just expect them to run better on PS4K. I would expect a game that is really pushing the graphics envelope to run at 1080p 60fps on PS4K while the same game might run at 900p 60/30fps on PS4. Just the way I took it."
The post gathered mixed comments from its community, specifically, members who are current owners of a PlayStation 4 or those who are still thinking of getting one. There were many who took the news positively, but there where plenty who got upset with Sony's alleged plans. There were also a few who reacted that PlayStation 4K is a good April Fool's Day joke.
There is no official word coming from Sony concerning the PlayStation 4K.
