PlayStation celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark the special occasion, Sony offered a limited version of the latest PS4 gaming console. The device was sold out minutes after it was released. Now, the PS4 limited edition is found in eBay bearing a ridiculous price tag.

The console was sold for $499 in Sony's website. Later, it began to appear in eBay, with units reportedly sold for as high as $22,500. Previous bids went as high as $15,000 increasing the profit of the seller by many folds. The bidding battle is expected to continue to escalate as the limited edition of the console is now considered a rare item and a precious collectible for avid gamers. The nostalgic appearance of the gaming device highly appeals to gamers, especially for long-time players of PlayStation.

The device sports the original retro-gray color of the first PlayStation as well as the original logo. The limited edition of the console has DualShock 4, PlayStation Camera, and vertical stand that comes in a similar gray color.

When Sony released the first PlayStation in Japan back in December 1994, it entered a dense market crowded by gaming giants including Sega and Nintendo. Still, PlayStation was able to break out and was able to persuade gamers in buying the console. The company was able to sell 100 million units of the device.

Second-hand sellers were able to sell the new unit for a higher price since the model is no longer available in the website, but there is still a high demand for the said console since Sony released only 12,300 units. Placing of pre-orders on the limited edition of PS4 ended on Dec. 6.

Those who are willing to pay a very high price are, of course, free to bid for the console on eBay. Sony's PlayStation offered no comment on the re-selling of the commemorative device.
