'Resident Evil 2' remake release date: demo showcase coming during 'Resident Evil 7' launch

The "Resident Evil 2" remake should be ready for show early next year. Capcom

The highly anticipated "Resident Evil 2" remake is expected to be previewed alongside the launch event for "Resident Evil 7" early next year.

That being said, while the latest iteration of the hit survival horror video game series will be front and center, Capcom will also take time show off the "Resident Evil 2" remake.

A demo is actually expected to be showcased, according to a leak in NeoGAF claiming that the loading screen for "Resident Evil 7" flashed numbers that make up the product ID for the "Resident Evil 2" director's cut for PlayStation 1.

For the game, the developer teamed up with the group of fans that created the high-definition or HD version of "Resident Evil 2."

That project was closed and Capcom directly worked with the team to make a full-fledged "Resident Evil 2" remake.

Capcom has yet to detail its plans on the remake, on whether or not it will keep the beloved original's fixed camera angles. However, the developer says that "Resident Evil 6" was a big inspiration for it.

"Every title brings with it learning experiences," producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi told Video Gamer, adding that he got a lot of feedback regarding "Resident Evil 6."

He added that he has "taken on board everything I've heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me through the next experience I'll be bringing to you."

Meanwhile, Hideki Kamiya, the director of the original "Resident Evil 2," revealed in an interview with Polygon that he is proud that his work "still resonates."

He added that he is proud that that fact that "people still want to play it, and that Capcom is going to invest all that time and energy into remaking it, is really an honor."

At the moment, there's no release date for the "Resident Evil 2" remake, but it is expected to see the light of day by 2018 after a preview early next year.
