Rogue One cast news: Mads Mikkelsen gives a hint after being absent from trailer

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Jyn Erso Lucasfilm

Mads Mikkelsen is not seen in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's" first official trailer, but he admitted accidentally that he is in the movie and will be playing the father of Felicity Jone's character, Jyn Erso. However, he didn't stop there.

The "Hannibal" actor also mentioned that some iconic "Star Wars" characters will be making an appearance in the upcoming film.

He said, "Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It's a mix," Evening Standard reported.

Mikkelsen added that the film will also be featuring flashbacks showing Jyn's childhood.

"I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she's a wonderful actress. I play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she's younger, so we jump back and forth in time," he said.

Business Insider added that the Danish actor also confirmed previously that some of the scenes will take them to Iceland for the shots that involve the Starkiller Base. "The Force Awakens" went there as well.

Since "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is a prequel to "A New Hope," there is a possibility that other characters from "Episode IV" will pop up in the upcoming movie. It has been rumored that a young Han Solo will make a cameo appearance.

Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Grand Moff Tarkin might also show up. The sculptor behind Vader's helmet, Brian Muir, is said to be in working in the prequel film, though the voice actor, James Earl Jones, is unconfirmed yet. Tarkin can be resurrected via CGI or another actor can be cast since Peter Cushing died back in 1994. Boba Fett's services might also be needed by Darth Vader, so there is a chance that the bounty hunter will also be there.

The report added that Diego Luna might play Luke's childhood friend, Biggs Darklighter. He is also the Rebel pilot who perished in the Battle of Yavin in "Episode IV."

The other cast members still have unknown roles, but based on the trailer, Jiang Wen seems to be a fighter, while Forest Whitaker will play a tough-looking survivor. An unnamed Imperial admiral will be played by Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk will be a stop-capture character.

The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Donnie Yen 's character will be "good and benevolent" one.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit the big screen on Dec. 16 this year, which is almost one year from when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released.
