Season 7 of the long-running medical drama of USA Network's "Royal Pains" is coming to a close. But fans will not really have to wait that long to see their favorite doctors to the elite again, as the show will return summer of 2016.

Cartermatt reports that the next and last installment of the hit series will run for eight episodes. As everything is still left hanging at the finale, the website expects the new installment to tie up loose ends. Divya (Reshma Shetty) may finally take the plunge and get engaged with Raj (Rupak Ginn). After learning that they will not be new parents to an adopted child, Evan (Paulo Costanzo) and Paige (Brook D'Orsay) may have to find other ways to get the baby they have always wanted. Viewers may also see more of Jeremiah (Ben Shenkman), who got so little airtime in season 7.

As for Hank (Mark Feuerstein), executive producer Michael Rauch let slip to The Hollywood Reporter that there would be some good news regarding his love life.

"It's a big part. Divya has Sashi, and Evan has Paige. We'll be having some fun with Jeremiah, Boris has Marissa and Carlos, and Hank is the person who has everyone, and yet at the same time, no one in his life is as fulfilling as the partners the other characters have."

Meanwhile, season 8 will mark the end of the series' journey. Although USA Network has yet to announce the news, Rauch said they do not expect that there will be a "surprise" season after it, as no show on the network has run longer than eight seasons. He said, however, that they "always keep hope alive."

"Although there is somewhat of a bittersweet feeling sometimes because — while the end isn't near — it isn't that far away, we're such a close family and so everyone is just happy to be together," he said.

The showrunner also hinted on what fans could expect for the last season. According to him, some of the old faces from the past episodes might make a comeback.
