Three Samsung Galaxy Note models are getting their Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update soon, good news for the ones eager to get a big Android operating system (OS) bump.
Two of the Galaxy Note clan — the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge — are set to get the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 boot, particularly for the ones subscribed under T-Mobile.
The mobile carrier joins other ones such as AT&T and Sprint in offering the latest Android OS update which carries important updates and new features for a better mobile phone experience.
The Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will come with N910TUVU2DOK2 or the N910T3UVU1DOK2, which are about 678 MB or 224 MB, respectively, in size.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will get N915TUVU2COK2 that is roughly around 150 MB in size.
The over-the-air (OTA) update for the two devices is currently being rolled out and will give owners new features such as video calling and advanced messaging. To check if the update is already available, simply head on to your phone settings and see if the OTA update (for T-Mobile) is ready for downloading.
So how about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE?
While there is no OTA update announced for this model, users can turn to a custom ROM courtesy of SmokkieROM.
While the Android Lollipop 5.0 is available, folks who want to advance to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop can do so, although it will require owners to have their device rooted. Before proceeding, it would be wise to back-up important files and data from the device.
For those who want to use the custom ROM, here are the steps to take as detailed via Neurogadget.
1. Download the zip files of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Custom ROM by SmokkieROM and Google Apps to a PC 2. Attach your Galaxy Note 3 LTE and copy the files to the phone's microSD card. 3. Disconnect your phone and turn it off. 4. Enter recovery mode (press and hold Home+Power+Volume up buttons) 5. Perform a full data wipe by choosing the "wipe data/factory reset" option 6. Choose "wipe cache". 7. Go to the "advanced" and "wipe dalvik cache" 8. Head on over to the main recovery screen and choose "install zip from SD card" selecting Android Lollipop custom ROM by SmokkieROM. 9. One the custom ROM has been installed, choose the Google Apps zip next. 10. After installation, reboot your phone.
