Former Orlando Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn is returning to the San Antonio Spurs as a pro scout, with the team announcing his addition to the front office on their official website.
In the past three seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Vaughn spent his time trying to help a rebuilding Magic franchise but was unable to create much impact.
Vaughn was hired by Orlando in 2012 but before the 2014–15 season ended, he was fired last February.
The 40-year-old coached the Magic in 216 regular season games and compiled a 58–158 record.
Before being the Magic head coach, Vaughn had his first stint with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach for two seasons (2010–2012).
Vaughn entered the NBA after being selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 1997 draft.
The former Kansas Jayhawk played 12 years in the NBA and along with the Jazz, also had stints with the Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, the then New Jersey Nets, and the Spurs.
Vaughn spent the last three seasons of his playing career with the Spurs being part of the 2007 NBA championship-winning team before retiring after the 2008–09 season and later joining the franchise as an assistant.
Yahoo Sports first reported the news about Vaughn returning and stated in the report that he was set to replace Trajan Langdon, who recently joined the Cleveland Cavaliers' front office.
Before Vaughn, another assistant coach returned when James Borrego was hired by San Antonio last June.
Borrego started his coaching career in the NBA with the Spurs and was part of two championship teams from 2003–2010.
After leaving the Spurs, Borrego became an assistant coach for the then New Orleans Hornets from 2010 to 2012 before joining the Orlando Magic again as an assistant under Vaughn.
Borrego was named the Magic's interim head coach after Vaughn was dismissed from the position in February.
