An inter-conference match of two clubs looking to have momentum in their final playoff push will happen Wednesday when the San Jose Earthquakes host Montreal Impact at Avaya Stadium.

The Quakes will again have home field advantage for the fourth consecutive match and are looking to break into the top six in the Western Conference.

San Jose already played three matches in the club's current home stand but only captured one win and it was in the first match against defending Major League Soccer (MLS) champions Los Angeles Galaxy (1–0).

The huge victory was followed by a 2–1 defeat to Philadelphia Union and last Saturday's 1–1 draw with Seattle Sounders FC.

A win against Montreal will give the Quakes 42 points, which will then tie them with Rave Green who are on the fourth spot in the West.

The Quakes are currently sitting on the seventh spot with 39 points, just two points behind sixth placer Portland Timbers and four points ahead of the eighth placer Houston Dynamo.

Meanwhile, Montreal looks to return to the club's winning ways after only getting one victory in their past six league matches.

In the Impact's last MLS match Saturday, they were unable to score against the Galaxy as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Before that, Montreal defeated the Chicago Fire (4–3) early this month to end a four-match winless streak, which saw the club have a draw against the New York Red Bulls (1–1) followed by losses to D.C. United (1–0), Philadelphia (1–0), and Toronto FC (2–1).

Because of their current struggles, the Impact started to go down the standings and are now on the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 32 points tied with Orlando City SC.

A win would not help the Imapact move up the standings since on the fifth spot in the East is Toronto which has 37 points. Still, it will give them 35 points which will be a cushion for them from lower placed clubs trying to reach the top six.

The first and only meeting between the San Jose Earthquakes and Montreal Impact in the MLS this season will be on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 p.m. EST. To watch via live stream, click here.
