Sherlock season 4 spoilers: Is a Moriarty return on the cards?

Sherlock and Watson BBC

Sherlock Season 4 is heading to a major climax, as fans have been aware for quite some time now. Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the lead in the BBC series was spotted in London, shooting for the upcoming season.

A small crowd of onlookers watched as Cumberbatch, cloaked in Sherlock's trademark dark, woolen cloak, acted out the scenes in the wee hours of the morning. To the audience, the scenes filmed seemed to be dramatic as well as emotional, as reported by Dailymail. The cast was also reportedly spotted filming in the Wales' Cardiff area during the late hours of the night.

One of the biggest spoilers for the upcoming season is that it looks like Moriarty, Holmes's archenemy is alive. He was last seen in the second season of the series, where The Reichenbach Fall saw him pull the trigger in his mouth.

Towards the end of season 3, a now famous message from Moriarty that went 'Did you miss me?' hinted at a possible return of the character. This video on GeekFeed further increases the odds in favor of Moriarty's comeback. Of course, as GeekFeed goes on to explain, this could be a part of the mind palace that Holmes is known for.

In order to find out how true it is, fans will have to wait until early 2017, which is when season 4 of the series is expected to release. The official release date though, is yet to be announced.

For those of you who have loved Sherlock right from his days in the books, Culverton Smith is a familiar name. Cultbox reveals that the cunning villain who featured in The Dying Detective will now be immortalized on screen by actor Toby Jones of Captain America fame.

We know now that this is going to be one of the three episodes in the new season, and 2017 couldn't be here quickly enough.
