Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 dates: Opening ceremony time, NBC TV broadcast schedule and hosts announced

The Sochi Olympics 2014 will be kicking off on February 7, 2014.

In just three weeks, athletes from around the world will come together to compete in both ice and snow sports.

Among the event highlights will be figure skating, alpine skiing, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, hockey and more.

NBC will be broadcasting the Sochi Olympic Winter Games, including the opening ceremony in Primetime. Coverage will be provided by NBCUniversal across NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, MSNBC, USA and NBCOlympics.com.

The Olympic Opening Ceremony will be hosted by Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira on February 7, at 7:30p.m.ET. A total of 84 NBC Olympics commentators will be providing coverage, which would be the most in-depth coverage in Winter Olympics history.

Multi-Emmy Award winner Bob Costas will be the Olympic primetime host, including the late night show.

NBC's live weekend and NBCSN's live weekday coverage will be provided by Al Michaels.

The weekday daytime show will be hosted by NBC News' Lester Holt.

Figure skating gold medalist Sarah Hughes, Tara Lipinski, and two-time figure skating medalist Nancy Kerrigan will also be among the commentators.

The actual Olympic competition will begin a day before the opening day ceremony and NBC will begin primetime coverage at 8p.m. ET on February 6, 2014.

The games kicking off on February 6 include men and women's snowboard slopestyle. For those traveling to Sochi, tickets for the Games can be purchased on the offical Sochi Olympics website. 

This year, the athlete to watch is 18-year-old Gracie Gold, who won the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships last week. Gold is set to be America's next sweetheart as she aims for gold in the Olympic women's figure skating championships.
