Idris Elba will play the role of the big bad in "Star Trek Beyond." During an interview with MTV, the actor teased that his villainous character won't be anything like the baddies that came before him as his will be something entirely new and revolutionary.

"I think 'Star Trek' has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains," Elba recognized. While his character, which is completely original to the franchise, will be one with the others who make it a goal to "end the world," the actor teased that "there's a slightly different twist" to his.

"It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise," he explained. He did add that no matter how fresh his character will be in "Star Trek Beyond," it was still given that "classic bad guy is a classic bad guy tone."

The identity of Elba's role in the upcoming intergalactic film is still being kept tightly under wraps, leading fans of the franchise to rely on the rumor mill and speculate for themselves too. Initially, it was being surmised that he will be a Klingon.

For the uninitiated, Klingon is a dangerous extraterrestrial humanoid warrior species. The breed will be the villains in "Star Trek Beyond." With Elba not playing a member of this deadly bloc, fans find it difficult to know what his character's motivation will be in destroying the planet.

Simon Pegg, who is writing the script with Doug Dorst, also extinguished speculations about this in an interview with Absolute Radio. Also, if director Justin Lin's statement is any indication, it looks like fans will be introduced to an unfamiliar species in "Star Trek Beyond."

"The Klingons, Romulans, and other species are great, but it's time to go further. It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species," Lin, who said that his goal is to make the movie feel "fresh," told SMH.

"Star Trek Beyond" hits the big screen on July 22, 2016.
