'Star Wars: Episode 8' spoilers: Script rewritten? Asian actress lands a role?

The hype for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" have started to die down, but the same thing cannot be said for the next "Star Wars" installment, "Episode VIII," as it continues to be subject of rumors.

According to the latest rumor, "Star Wars: Episode VIII" is going through a rewrite. Reports gathered that the reason for a rewrite is to reduce the focus on two new characters set to appear in the next movie. Instead, the focus will be given to "The Force Awakens" characters, Rey (Daisy Ridley) Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Finn (John Boyega).

Speaking on the "Meet the Movies" podcast, Jeff Sneider from The Wrap explained that the principal photography for the film has been postponed to February this year instead of this month, to give Rian Johnson some time to complete the script rewrite.

Along with the rewrite comes the news that two roles, which are to be portrayed by young actresses, will be downsized as the movie will spend more time getting to know Rey, Poe, and the like.

Sneider also said that Gina Rodriguez and Bel Powley were rumored to star in "Episode VIII." Rodriguez reportedly didn't make it and lost the role to an Asian actress, while it remains to be seen if Powley will land a role.

On the other hand, the Asian actress is said to come from a small agency and has yet to make a name for herself, Sneider revealed. ScreenRant reported that if an Asian actress will indeed land a role in the movie, it will help the "Star Wars" brand, since the franchise lacks popularity in some Asian countries like China.

Although Sneider is a credible writer for The Wrap, the report is purely hearsay and he even admitted that those are just things he heard about "Episode VIII." It still remains to be seen if there is truth to the rumors.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is set to begin production this month, so fans should stay tuned to get more updates.
