'The Flash' season 2 spoilers: Doctor Light's identity revealed in episode 5

The Flash season 2 CW

It was previously reported that "The Flash" season 2 would feature a female version of the superhero Doctor Light who in the comics is known as Kimiyo Hoshi. However, a leaked Australian trailer for episode 5, titled "The Darkness and the Light," not only reveals Doctor Light is an enemy but also who is underneath the mask.

The trailer reveals that Doctor Light will not be Kimiyo Hoshi as in the comics but instead will be the Earth-2 equivalent of Linda Park, played by Malese Jow. Park was seen briefly during season 1 when she and Barry (Grant Gustin) started dating but their relationship ended when they realized Barry was still pining for Iris (Candice Patton).

As pointed out in a report from Cinema Blend, this would explain why Park is shown crying in several promotional images for the episode. While Barry, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and the rest of the team are now accustomed to seeing people from Earth-2, Linda Park is not and would "freak out" upon seeing a person exactly like her.

While Linda Park is a journalist in the show's Earth-1, there is the possibility that she has a different occupation and history on Earth-2.

The report also states that this may eliminate the possibility of Doctor Light turning over to the good side. However, it is also explained that the Earth-1 Linda Park might gain her own powers and redeem the character by joining The Flash's team. She may even end up defeating her Earth-2 counterpart if she indeed gains powers of her own.

Malese Jow appeared prominently in season 1 and she did make a quick appearance in season 2 episode 3 "Family of Rogues." She is set to appear in multiple episodes this second season which further implicates Doctor Light will be around for some time instead of just being a "villain of the week."

"The Flash" season 2 episode 5, "The Darkness and the Light," airs this Nov. 3.
