Since its release back in March 2016, "Tom Clancy's The Division" has surprisingly been having a steady rise in terms of player base. This is despite the appearance of other popular role-playing games (RPG) coming up. As such, developer Massive Entertainment's Managing Director, David Polfeldt, has been thinking of releasing a sequel.

Polfeldt recently had an interview with IGN, and he discussed his thoughts on the game and its future. "I think it's a wonderful, wonderful brand that has so many potential stories in it. There are a lot of things that we didn't do in The Division 1 that are interesting to look at for that brand," said the director.

"I definitely think there's lots of space for continuation which is beyond just keeping The Division online. But... I can't talk about that too much right now," he continued. Although this is far from anything about a specific "The Division 2", the way he says "The Division 1" and the mention of "space for continuation" indirectly already says something.

If it is not in the works, then fans at least know that it has been one of the looming thoughts in the company. Polfeldt does not deny this, but as he also mentions, their first priority for now is to continue adding more content to the original "The Division." After all, they did drop quite a big update (1.8) just a few weeks ago.

According to Game Rant, given this and previous other clues, it would make sense for them to release a sequel. That said, a few years ago, Associative Creative Director, Julian Gerighty, did say that he sees the whole situation with the games as a franchise. In addition, the game will have a movie based on it soon.

The expected announcement of "The Division 2" will further fulfill Gerighty's vision and be able to support the upcoming movie. For now, at least gamers of "The Division" can rest assured that there will definitely still be more content to be released.
