Rogue, the mutant with the ability to absorb the power of other superpowered beings, as well as the psyche of anyone, may be coming back to the silver screen via "X-Men: Dark Phoenix."

According to Omega Underground, casting is currently underway for the film. The website was able to uncover audition tapes of three actors: Australian actor Rarmian Newtown, who auditioned for the character "Shane"; Canadian-American actor Alexa Swinton, who tried out for "Marie"; and Irish actor Paul Mescal for "Sam." According to the website, these names may just be placeholders for the actual roles, which is a common practice in the industry.

The audition tape of Swinton has since been taken down from the website. However, the videos of Newtown and Mescal are still uploaded.

In the comics, Rogue's real name is Marie D'Ancantano, so there is a likelihood that this is the actor Swinton auditioned for. Sam, meanwhile could refer to Sam Guthrie, also known as Cannonball, according to Digital Spy, although this mutant is more identified with the New Mutants than the X-Men, and which, incidentally, is slated to have its own film. Comic Book Movie, meanwhile, theorizes that "Sam" could also be the code name for Banshee, an Irish superhero. However, this might be contrary to the "Marie" theory, since the character's real name is Paul Cassidy. Furthermore, this character was killed off between the events of "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." No speculations have emerged so far as to who "Shane" might be, which is not surprising, considering that there are no prominent X-Men characters who have that name.

Rogue was played in the original trilogy by Anna Paquin. Although the actor filmed scenes to reprise the role in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," these were ultimately cut from the film. Given that several characters in the trilogy have since been recast to younger actors, it is not a stretch to assume that someone new will be playing Rogue.
