Android 5.0 L OS update for Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 will roll out earlier than the rumored release date, according to latest reports.  One probable reason for the rumors of an earlier release is the upcoming launch of iOS 8 and the debut of Apple Pay. The Apple mobile software is gaining a lot of attention due to the new features it offers.

Currently, Android 5.0 L OS is in developer preview to comb out any bugs and issues as well as to allow Android developers to improve their apps based on the new features and configurations of the new Android OS.  And if Apple is offering a lot of features, then it can be expected that Google will, too.  According to reports, Android L is the biggest Android version in history, packed with more than 5,000 new Application Programming Interfaces (API). However, this is not finalized and more could be revealed in the final build.

Google announced the new Android 5.0 L operating system at this year's Google I/O conference while keeping its release date a secret. The tech giant is unusually secretive these days with the details and road map of its products.  Nevertheless, there are predictions that the Android L will arrive on Oct. 16 and will be nicknamed Android Lollipop.  This speculation came about on Google's 16th year anniversary, when it displayed a cake with a lollipop on top.

The caption read: "Today our cake has 16 candles (plus 1 to grow on)."

At the same time, the alleged Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus 6 smartphone are also speculated to have a mid-October release date. Android Authority cited two different sources familiar with Google's plans who revealed that the Nexus 9 tablet will be released alongside "a new software initiative" and will debut either on Oct. 15 or 16.

However, the aforementioned rumors must be taken with a grain of salt until Google confirms the release date of Android 5.0 L OS and its new line of devices.
