An evangelism course for prisoners from an Anglican church in London has reached 20,000 inmates since its launch 12 months ago.

Since its launch in January 2015, The Prisoner's Journey has been used in 103 prisons across 11 countries, including Nigeria, Australia, Singapore, Spain and Brazil.

"This means that 20,000 inmates were reached with the Gospel in 2015, across five continents," said a spokesperson for Christianity Explored Ministries (CEM), one of the co-founders.

It was launched in January 2015 and is a collaboration of CEM and Prison Fellowship International (PFI).

It is based on Christianity Explored, a course produced by Rev Rico Tice, the associate minister for evangelism at All Souls', Langham Place and writer Barry Cooper. PFI helped tailor it for use in prisons.

PFI, founded in 1979, has worked with two million inmates in 3,700 prisons across 120 countries.

One prisoner who has been on the course, Daniel, said: "a lot of people who are not believers are taking part in it, especially in my cell. Even inmates that I used to invite to church and not accepting my invitation, joined this program."

"We trust the enthusiasm with which the Prisoner's Journey has been received will multiply further in 2016 and will lead to more prisoners all over the world exploring Mark's Gospel and finding true freedom and salvation in Jesus Christ", the chief exeutive of CEM, Ian Roberts said.
