It is confirmed that the 2017 edition of the Honda Civic hatchback will be released to showrooms by fall. Meanwhile, the new Civic Type R will reportedly launch in the U.S. next year.

Confirming the launch on the U.S. market, senior vice president and general manager for American Honda Motor Co. Jeff Conrad said that the new hatchback edition will roll out as an addition to the new and improved Civic lineup.

The Honda executive stated, "Now, we're bringing this sporty, stylish and versatile Civic Hatchback to North America, as we amp up the performance of our incredible Civic lineup with each new Civic model."

The hatchback edition will be added to the U.S. lineup of the 2016 Coupe and Sedan versions, which are not available in Europe. The hatchback though, has already been touring European roads for some time.

Conrad added, "The Civic Hatch has been a staple for Honda in Europe, but has long been the forbidden fruit for Honda fans in the U.S."

Meanwhile, the expected fall 2016 launch is only for continental U.S. while other markets in North America like Canada will get the 2017 hatchback edition next year. This is welcome news to Honda fans, since it will mean that the Civic hatchback will return to Canadian roads after a 10-year hiatus.

Together with the Canada debut for the hatchback edition next year, the U.S. market is then scheduled to get the 2017 Civic Type R. In addition, it is also said that the 2017 release will also see a new Si edition rolling out.

The new 2017 Honda Civic hatchback will get improved specs for its U.S. release. It is already confirmed that the U.S. version will get both turbo engine and manual editions, unlike the previous 2016 Coupe and Sedan variants where the manual option was only available for lower trims.
