The 2019 Audi A7 will make its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The second-generation Sportback features an upgraded design, the latest innovations from the German automaker and a more refined driving experience.

According to Audi, the 2019 A7 has a more modern and precise design language that was inspired by the automaker's luxury coupe concept, the Prologue. These styling cues first made their production debut with the 2018 Audi A8. As such, both vehicles share a similar look — sculpted surfaces, a sloping roofline and a sleek silhouette.

The 2019 A7 has the spacious dimensions of a sedan, the exterior design of a coupe and the versatility of a Sportback body style. Compared to the previous-generation model, this allows for a more spacious cabin as well as easy access to cargo space thanks to a five-door layout.

As for the interior design, the second-generation A7 has a sleek, futuristic-looking dashboard with horizontal lines that that enhance the feeling of spaciousness inside the cabin. The space is further highlighted by contour lights that line the center console and door trim.

As with the 2018 A8, the 2019 A7 will feature Audi's latest MMI infotainment system. Buttons and knobs have been removed and users will be able to control different settings through two high-resolution touchscreen displays. The system has a smartphone-like operation with haptic and acoustic feedback. Available as an option, Audi's Virtual Cockpit will project pertinent vehicle information via a head-up display.

Audi has not announced specific technical specifications for the U.S.-bound 2019 A7. However, the second-generation Sportback is expected to be offered with the 2018 A8's powertrain — a 340-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The powertrain will allow the 2019 A7 to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 5.3 seconds and attain a top speed of 155 mph. The Sportback is also expected to feature a 48-volt electrical system for mild-hybrid capabilities.

The 2019 Audi A7 will go on sale later this year. Pricing will be announced closer to the official launch date.
