The New Year can be a very scary thing if we only think of the unknowns that we may face in it. We don't know what tomorrow holds. Will we be having a good time or a bad time? Will it be a year of victory and success, or a year where we will make many mistakes and failures?

There are so many things that can happen in the coming year, and we've got to prepare for it. One of the most important things that we can do in preparation for and as we make it through the coming year is holding on to God's promises. Why is this?

2 Peter 1:2-4 tells us the reason why:

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

God's promises allow us to live a godly life that's both fulfilling to us and pleasing to Him. When we live in accordance to what He has promised to us, we will find the strength to continually escape the corruption that sin brings to us.

That said, here are a few of God's promises that we should hold on to as we enter into 2018 in a few days' time.

God chose us and is with us - Isaiah 41:8-10

"But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham My friend. You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, and said to you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Christ is with us as we obey His command - Matthew 28:18-20

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen."

God saves those who believe in Christ - John 3:16-18

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
