3,000 Hope Street homes invited to share hopes for future

Personal invitations have gone out to 3,000 homes on Hope Streets across the UK to attend the on-line premiere of Fresh Hope, a new film funded by Church Army and The Christian Enquiry Agency.

From Aberdeen to Winchester, residents of all the UK's Hope Streets have been invited to share their hopes for the coming year by text, email or post.

The short film is featured on a new website developed by Church Army and the Christian Enquiry Agency, www.hopeinfo.co.uk, and will be the online face of a yearlong conversation with people the length and breadth of the UK to discover their thoughts on what it means to live hopefully.

The five Hope 08 'high points' - Fresh Hope, The Big Hope, Hope Where You Live, Hope Explored, and The Gift of Hope - will all be represented on the site, which hopes to encourage dialogue about faith-in-action hope particularly with those members of the public who have no prior knowledge or experience of the Christian faith.

2007 has been a year of preparation and prayer in advance of the major venture, which enjoys the backing of all the major churches in Britain and Ireland.

The initiative was welcomed by the Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev James Jones, whose own cathedral is located on Hope Street.

Bishop Jones commented: "The Christian gospel is all about hope, and here in Liverpool with our two cathedrals located at either end of Hope Street we want to be a beacon for that hope.

"I am delighted that over 3,000 residents of Hope Streets right across the UK will be asked about their hopes for the coming year by this initiative."

The site enjoys its official launch on 1 December to coincide with the beginning of Advent. Site visitors will be able to test their "hopefulness score" and sign up for the weekly email "Secrets of Hope" to find out how they can develop a more optimistic attitude towards the future.

Slam poet Jude Simpson has produced a special performance poem, 'Broken Open', which will also be premiered on the site.

The site is the idea of Gareth Squire, Director of the Christian Enquiry Agency, who said, "We want hopeinfo.co.uk to be a central place of inspiration and information about the faith that drives Christians to serve their communities - but equally importantly, we want it to be a place where people of all faiths and none can express their hopes and dreams and engage in a conversation about the true nature of hope."

David Coleman Church Army's Communications Manager, who is a partner in the project added: "Everyone hopes for something and this project is designed to start where people are and encourage as many people as possible to share their hopes - even those who don't live on Hope Street."

The film has been put together by Watering Can Media who have previously produced films for Vodafone, O2, and Channel Four.
