5 Bible verses for comfort when grieving
Everyone grieves differently. Different people have different reasons why they grieve. But at the end of the day, the intensity and magnitude of the negative feelings are the same. There are feelings of misery, hopelessness, worthlessness, and utmost sadness. While people cope differently, there is one common denominator for everyone who is grieving, and that is the Lord. The Lord can restore hope and give strength during those trying times. If you're grieving right now or know someone who is, focus on thes Bible verses.
1. God Gives Comfort
God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort! – Matthew 5:4
God will not let you go through this alone. If you feel like there's nothing that makes you happy and feel better at this point, let God comfort you and your heart.
2. God is With You
I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won't be afraid. You are with me, and your shepherd's rod makes me feel safe. – Psalm 23:4
Whatever you're going through, however dark it may be, don't give up. As long as God is with you, you will smile again. Often, when we are in the pit of despair, it feels like there's no coming out of it. Let God be your light at the end of the tunnel. He will be there waiting for you, and He will not forsake you, especially during these trying times.
3. God Will Save You
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. – Psalm 34:18
This verse is a great encouragement for those with broken spirits. Find comfort in knowing that God sees what you're going through. He feels your pain with you. He is beside you, holding your hand through this ordeal. God will not forsake those with broken spirits, rather, He will save you from despair. It won't take overnight, but you have to trust that everything is in God's perfect time.
4. God Gives You Hope
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13
Remember, as long as you're faithful to the Lord, He will continue filling your heart with love, joy, and peace. Grieving is a process, there's no one-time solution to fix what you're feeling. God lets you go through the pain and grieving for a reason, but this doesn't mean He doesn't care. There are lessons to be learned, and you'll see why later on. But for now, strengthen your faith further. Cry out to God as you've never before and eventually, you will find hope, joy, and peace once again.
5. God is Your Strength
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. – Psalm 73:26
In these times when you're at your weakest, you just don't have enough strength to fight the negative feelings. If you need the strength to let go and move on, there's no better source of strength than the Lord. As the verse said, your heart may fail, but God will always be the strength of your heart.
When someone you love passes away or if you've just ended the long-term relationship with someone you truly love, you will feel very defeated. Life is just that way sometimes, and believe or not, this is all part of God's plan for you. But do not worry, God will not give you anything you can't handle. Plus, He will be with you all the day.
