After New York cop killings, bishop launches prayer for the police campaign
A Virginia bishop has launched a campaign to pray for police officers nationwide in light of protests, killings, and heightened racial tensions across the country.
Bishop E.W. Jackson of The Called Church is offering police officer prayer cards for a tax-deductible donation through his political action committee, Staying True to Americas National Destiny (STAND).
The former Republican Lt. Governor nominee began the campaign following the murders of NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos last week. The gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, allegedly killed the officers in retaliation for the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown – two unarmed black men that were killed by police. Brinsley died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments after killing the officers.
Bishop Jackson said that STAND created the cards to show support for the police during tumultuous times.
"I have been saying that this lie that police are out hunting down black men has got to stop," he said in a statement. "We now have two cops murdered in cold blood. It's time for Americans to express our gratitude to our police officers."
On the card is a gold police shield with the "Police Officers Prayer" written on it:
When the job is hard.
When the pressure is great.
When you wonder,
"Does anyone appreciate?"
Just know that for all the work you do,
Someone is praying and thinking of you.
For your duty and honor in difficult times,
God in heaven makes His face shine.
He looks upon you from above.
To inspire you with courage and love.
May He give you the strength
To make one more round.
At the end of your shift,
To go home safe and sound.
May you fight the good fight,
And live by His grace.
When your work here is done,
You'll see His loving face.
The cards are available in quantities of 25 for every $25 donated. More information and the order form are available on the STAND website.
