'Agent Carter' season 2: Hayley Atwell previews Peggy and Jason's relationship after his exposure to Zero Matter

Season 2 of "Agent Carter" returned to ABC last week with back to back episodes. Fans met Peggy's (Hayley Atwell) new adversary, Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett), and possible love interest Dr. Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin). In the action-packed second episode, Jason tried to protect Peggy in a fight with Frost, and their fight unleashed a container of Zero Matter into the world while Frost ended up with a crack in her forehead.

Speaking with TVLine, Atwell previewed what happens next with Peggy's relationship with Jason now that he's been exposed to Zero Matter, and the actress also talked about a pivotal scene between Jarvis (James D'Arcy) and Peggy, which happens toward the end of the season.

When asked whether Jason won't be the same after his encounter with Zero Matter, Atwell said that there will now be a physical barrier that will prevent Peggy from getting near him.

"Once again, she's put this person that she cares about in the firing line, so she's going to have a lot of guilt," said Atwell, adding that Peggy will feel like it's her fault that Jason found himself in the situation that he was in.

In the Marvel comics, Zero Matter is known as the Dark Force, a negative energy from another dimension that has both negative and positive effects to whoever is exposed to it. While others perish when exposed to the Dark Force, some gain incredible superpowers, just like Doctor Strange. In the "Agent Carter" episode that aired this week, it was revealed that Jason is still alive but is now invisible.

Later in the season, Atwell said that Peggy and Jarvis will have a heated confrontation and the actress described the scene as one "that is fueled with so much venom and passion."

"It's like when you fight with your best friend, they know your absolute buttons to press, so it made for a very exciting scene to play with James," said the actress.

"Agent Carter" airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
