Science fiction has always captured the imagination of the public and created sleepless nights for some. 20th Century Fox is going to do that again, and it appears they can't wait to haunt everyone with the upcoming Sci-Fi film, "Alien: Covenant."

In a Twitter announcement, Fox has officially revealed the very first poster for the movie, and it certainly sends shivers down one's spine. A black figure lurking in the shadows shows its menacing facade with a caption that says "Run." Along with the creepy message is the new launch date set for May next year.

Fox has made switches with the release dates for some of its highly-anticipated sequels for 2017. Aside from "Alien: Covenant" moving to an earlier launch, from Aug. 4 to May 19, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" has also been moved back from an original schedule of June 16 to Oct. 6, Deadline reports.

Although there are no reports as to why Fox made such changes, it can be argued that this may be a strategy to rake in big numbers from the box office. "Alien: Covenant" will be going head to head with a few sequels and remakes, such as "Annabelle 2," "Baywatch," and "Nut Job 2."

Going back to the frightening poster, it can give hints as to what the sequel is going to be like. In an interview last year, creator Ridley Scott explained, "We are going back to how and why and when the beast was invented." Scott further elucidated by saying, "We'll go back into the back door of the very first 'Alien' that I did 30 years ago." The interview and the poster do make sense, pointing to how "Alien: Covenant" is connected to the very first film.

Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will be reprising their roles from the 2012 prequel "Prometheus." Newcomers Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup will also be taking a plunge into the nightmarish world of "Alien: Covenant," the Hollywood Reporter has learned.
