The premiere of the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's epic novel "American Gods" is right around the corner.

Starz is now ready to unveil the latest fantasy drama on Sunday, April 30. Those who already read the book know that the story will feature several unconventional characters like old and modern gods, as well as a tall leprechaun, among others.

The series will center on the life of a former convict named Shadow Moon, portrayed by former "The 100" star Ricky Whittle. Shadow is about to be released from prison after serving three years, but he is given an unexpected release after his wife Laura, played by Emily Browning, is murdered.

Shadow will find himself employed as a bodyguard by a man named Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane. But while Mr. Wednesday appears to be a con artist, he is actually the ancient god named Odin who settled in the US to gather and confront the modern gods who are also living in the country.

According to the synopsis of the premiere episode called "The Bone Orchard," the first encounter of Shadow and Mr. Wednesday will happen immediately at the start of the show.

In an interview with Philly, McShane talked about his thoughts regarding his unconventional character and how he can relate to it.

According to the British actor, he was initially offered the role of the Slavic god of darkness named Czernobog, which is now being portrayed by Peter Stormare. But the actor who was offered the role of Mr. Wednesday turned it down, so he was handed the role. "Sometimes parts have got your name on it. And this one seemed to," he stated.

McShane also believes that Mr. Wednesday is the kind of god who behaves more like a normal human being. "Wednesday is just unendingly optimistic and funny and charming and capricious and as willful as any of the other gods that he supposedly despises," he also stated. "But you'll have a better time with Wednesday. Because the glass is always half-full with Wednesday."

Starz will air the premiere episode of "American Gods" on Sunday, April 30, at 9 p.m. EDT.
