'American Horror Story' season 5 spoilers: 'Hotel' plot 'bloodier and grislier,' says Ryan Murphy

Renowned TV executive Ryan Murphy recently sat down for an interview and shared several details about "American Horror Story: Hotel," saying that the new season of FX's horror anthology drama will feature pure horror. It will be "bloodier and grislier" compared to its past five seasons, the series co-creator revealed.

Murphy also told Deadline that despite having some of the best singers in the cast, there will be no musical numbers in "Hotel." He said that people were speculating that pop superstar Lady Gaga, who landed her first acting job on TV, will have a few singing scenes in the series. But Murphy said that it will never happen.

According to the TV exec, he and Lady Gaga are excited to work on "Hotel" because "it's not something that she's ever done before." Murphy also said that the singer will have "pure acting part" for the darker, more "horror-based" season of the popular anthology.

When asked about the inspiration for this season's theme, the veteran TV boss said that it was patterned after the hotels featured in horror movies. They did their research in a number of existing hotels located in downtown Los Angeles where some terrible things allegedly happened. He also said that they want to play around the idea that once a person checks into a hotel, there are always things that could happen beyond their control.

"Other people have the keys to your room; they can come in there. You're not exactly safe, it's a very unsettling idea," Murphy said.

He also talked about the possibility of seeing fan-favorite "AHS" star Jessica Lange in the future installments of the anthology, saying that all cast members of the show are given the liberty to appear in the next season or not, and if he could present something that will interest Lange in the future, he is sure that she will take it.

Lange and Murphy are currently working on a Broadway production of "A Long Day's Journey Into Night," which means that they do not have to miss each other for long.

But while Lange is taking a break from the anthology, other "AHS" alum will return next season. According to Murphy, they are currently finalizing the deal with Denis O'Hare so he can start working on the "Hotel" set. The other returning stars, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, were reportedly given interesting villainous roles which are different from what they have done in the series in the past. The other characters are also given important roles this season.

"This year, it's a true ensemble and I think we have more male parts and more male stories. The Wes Bentley part is really big, the Matt Bomer part is really big; Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock are really big. That's not to say that the women aren't either; I mean Kathy Bates and Gaga and Paulson's part and Angela Bassett's part are great. But I guess it's a different tone this year than we've had," Murphy said.

"American Horror Story: Hotel" is slated to air on FX sometime in October this year.
