iDigital Times recently reported that pre-orders for the amiibo Wave 4 sets were being cancelled across the U.K. and it is likely that it will occur in the U.S. as well. For those who want to grab the "Super Smash Bros." figures but are facing pre-order cancellation, a new report hints that customers may be able to acquire a Silver Mario amiibo instead.

According to a report by IGN, an employee working for the Fred Meyer retail chain noticed that the legendary Silver Mario amiibo was listed in the company's point-of-sale system. The employee also took note that the figurine is scheduled for a May 29 release date, the same release date as Wave 4.

The discovery was then posted by ValtriusXIII via Reddit, along with a photo of the POS screenshot. IGN continues to report that this post has led to a massive amiibo hunt and it has been confirmed that the Silver Mario figure has popped up on Target's POS as well.

If the Silver Mario has indeed appeared in both Fred Meyer's and Target's systems, then it won't be an exclusive item. However, representatives from Toys "R" Us and Best Buy have confirmed that as of the moment of writing, they have not found any sign of the toy figure in their POS databases.

IGN also cites that a collector discovered the Silver Mario amiibo in a Chinese auction site last April 14. The collector immediately purchased the item and posted a video review, showing the product working with "Mario Party 10."

This indicates that the Silver Mario may be released at the same time as Wave 4, but unlike the cancelled orders, this amiibo is speculated to be more widely available as it may not be an exclusive item for one retailer chain. IGN has since contacted Target to verify if it is indeed in their system but no response has been given to this date.
