Amiibo wave 4 pre-orders cancelled before launch in the U.S.

Super Smash Bros. Amiibo Wave 4Nintendo

The fourth wave of amiibo figures is due to arrive in North America on May 29, but the toys are set to roll out this month in Europe. However, these toys have already been pre-ordered and will not be displayed on store shelves. For North America, though, as with previous amiibo releases, the pre-orders for the fourth wave of figurines are getting canceled even before its launch.

Previous woes of collectors and hardcore Nintendo fans about ordering amiibo figures is that retailers sometimes choose to cancel pre-orders for the upcoming releases. This is a familiar tune, as some retailers use this tactic to skim potential scammers who keep on pre-ordering the same amiibo many times, just to make sure that they'll have at least one figurine purchased.

Also, since pre-orders for the fourth wave were already fulfilled and expired for some retailers, it creates a domino effect in the sale of the toys, since most of the retailers that still offer pre-orders take up the slack, and the supply cannot keep up with the demand. Meanwhile, some retailers also control their amiibo sales and are forced to cancel pre-orders because amiibo's supplier Nintendo fails to keep up with the demands, creating an order backlog.

Most fans and retail observers note that Nintendo should restock amiibo figurines, like what the company did for the amiibo Marth figurine, instead of just releasing limited quantities in an area. This way, stocks of the hugely-popular figures would not dwindle, and fans and retailers alike would not be mollified.

The amiibo's fourth wave would be shipped out on May 29 and figurines consist of: three characters from the upcoming Nintendo shooter "Splatoon," namely Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl, and Inkling Squid; and eight figurines from the "Super Smash Bros." title, namely Charizard, Greninja, JIgglypuff, Lucina, Ness, Robin, Pac-Man, and Wario.
