Amy Duggar-King still focuses on positives after getting hit hard by her parents' divorce
Even as Duggar cousin Amy is enjoying her first year of wedded bliss with her husband Dillon King, her parents are breaking their marriage and have decided to file for divorce.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Amy's father Terry Jordan filed for divorce from her mother Deanna Duggar on Dec. 21 in Washington County, Arkansas.
Her parents' divorce has gotten the aspiring country singer down, but Amy is still choosing to focus on the positive side of things. "It has been quite a year to be a Duggar," said the 29-year-old newlywed. "The family has gone through a lot of heartache this year, but we will get through it. Right now, I just have to take lessons from all I've gone through this year and focus on my marriage."
Amy tied the knot with her beau Dillon back in September, and their wedding was a joyous occasion for the Duggar family, who suffered from one scandal after another because of the actions taken by eldest son Josh.
Amy further shared that her parents' decision to get a divorce did not really surprise her, but she was still shocked the way her father broke the news to her.
"They have had an on/off relationship for a long time," she admitted. "It's sad they can't be a team. The divorce papers came, and my dad told me through a text on Christmas. I don't think he meant to, he just didn't know what to do. I was devastated. It hit me so hard."
The divorce papers filed by Terry said that Deanna inflicted on him "such indignities as to render his condition in life intolerable."
They made the decision to separate on a Sunday, Dec. 20.
Amy is grateful that she has her husband by her side during this difficult moment in time. "I'm glad I have Dillon to lean on and be my rock," she said. "Relationships are fragile. You have to communicate. If you keep everything bottled up, it's all going to crack one day."
