Android Lollipop was first released to the public in June of last year. However, the current Lollipop version, Android 5.1.1, still hasn't made it to all devices. Some of the handsets that are still waiting for the update include Motorola's Moto G, Moto X, and Moto E smartphones. However, there are rumors that these three devices will be getting their own over-the-air updates soon.

According to NeuroGadget, Motorola has already listed at least 17 devices that will have the OTA update to Android 5.1.1. Included in the list are the 2013 and 2014 versions of the Moto G; the 2013 and 2014 versions of the Moto X; and the 1st and 2nd generations of the Moto E. The 4G LTE version of the Moto E will also be updated to Android Lollipop 5.1.1 in the near future.

Although the release dates for the update are still hanging in the air, observers note that Motorola may have already developed 5.1.1 platforms for their devices since by now, they presumably already have a template from their new handsets. It is expected that their new offerings, the Moto X Pure Edition and Moto X Play, will run on Android 5.1.1 right out of their boxes.

In addition, it is also rumored that Motorola will ready the updates for their devices soon as preparation for the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is already confirmed that the rollout for Android's newest version is just around the corner.

The 5.1.1 update for Android Lollipop is primarily composed of bug fixes and tweaks, such as additional support for USB Type-C connections and fingerprint sensor. The successor to the 5.1.0 Lollipop also has an improved Material Design feature plus additional new device themes.

Since the update is expected to be done over the air, users will automatically receive an update notification once the file is available for download.
