Unlike Samsung, the HTC One M9 is not running on the latest Lollipop update for Android 5.1 as of yet.

However, a custom ROM from popular developer LlabtooFer provided a first look of what the latest update has to offer.

The ROM, based on 2.7.401.1 firmware for the handset, as reported in Android beat, reveals a user interface that appears to have the most significant change once the Lollipop update arrives for HTC One M9.

According to the report, there will be notable changes seen on the animation. In addition, the update provides quicker access to the "Do Not Disturb" mode via the volume slider.

Other features to come for One M9 with the Lollipop update include multi-user support, some tweaks to extend battery life and the control for the native color display, which reportedly allows users to adjust the display's color temperature.

It is also expected that changes applied by Google to Android 5.1 will be carried over to the next update.

Users can hope for features like improved notifications, more efficient quick settings and a solution to fix the memory leak problem that has contributed to the crashing and rebooting of Lollipop-running devices.

As of the moment, no information on the set release date for One M9's Lollipop update has been given yet, but according to a guess from Gottabemobile, the update may arrive before the end of July.

This speculation comes from the fact that the custom ROM has been leaked, which suggests that the final stage of the update is nearing and an announcement from HTC is likely on the way.

The custom ROM is now available for download for those who cannot wait for the release of the latest update. However, the device must be rooted and should have a custom recovery installed before the firmware can be tested.
