While some tech manufacturers and mobile carriers are still in the rollout stage of the base Android Marshmallow version, Google recently made official the first update to Marshmallow, version 6.0.1. As what the tech giant did when it made Android 6.0 official, the first devices to get the newest version are the different Nexus devices.

According to IBNLive, Google plans to roll out the new Android M version to Nexus devices by next week. However, this is the over-the-air update, for casual Nexus owners or those who are willing to wait for the new Android version to come to their devices.

Meanwhile, Google has already released the official factory images for the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update, and observers like Droid Life have already published the links for the build files. The Android 6.0.1 image versions are for tech-savvy Nexus device owners who have some understanding of manually installing system updates.

BGR listed some of the new features and upgrades that the newest Android M version brings. Android 6.0.1 was not considered a major update; however, the new version will still bring a number of new features for Android devices. According to the industry follower, one of the most noted features is the addition of all-new emojis. In addition, the new version also adds support for Unicode 8.0 (codes that read emoji), making Android users on par with their iOS counterparts.

Meanwhile, there is also an additional tweak to the Do Not Disturb mode for Android Marshmallow. With the 6.0.1 version, users have the option to turn off all notification sounds until the next scheduled alarm, which Google left out when it launched Android 6.0.

Aside from Nexus devices, it was also reported that another device that would immediately make the jump to Android 6.0.1 is HTC's One A9. One of the first devices to come out with Android Marshmallow right out of the box, HTC announced that the One A9 will get its new Android 6.0.1 update before December ends.
