While Google is currently preparing a new Android N platform, most tech manufacturers and major carriers have yet to migrate to the current-gen Android Marshmallow environment. It has only been in recent months that carrier and brand-specific versions of Android M was rolled out. This is good news for LG V10 users subscribed to T-Mobile as the major carrier announced that the flagship will receive its Android M update soon.

According to a tweet from product manager Des Smith, the carrier-locked LG V10 will get its Marshmallow update anytime this week. While the carrier has not detailed why it is only now that the Android 6.0 update is rolling out for the LG V10, the carrier must have scheduled it to coincide with other carriers' roll-out. Before T-Mobile's announcement, the most recent update to a carrier-locked LG V10 came from Verizon Wireless, and is also currently the only carrier to update to Android M its LG V10 units.

T-Mobile will be the second major U.S. carrier to update the LG flagship to Android M when the OTA notifications roll out.

However, Android Authority points out that the lack of a specific start date for the roll-out may mean that this week's release period is only a target date. The industry follower said that this is understandable, seeing that a carrier-specific update of an Android version is different from the stock ROM that Google releases. The carrier version will have some kinks and bugs even if it is already the final version, and developers will need to identify and patch them up.

The update to Marshmallow will not be a long jump for the LG V10, which shipped out late last year with Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box. When the OTA update notification comes out (hopefully this week), it will unlock a number of Marshmallow features for the LG V10.
