Google recently released Android Nougat's last and final developer preview. Fans are now speculating that the upcoming mobile operating system will be publicly available by September, and as usual, the latest Nexus devices will receive it first.

"As we close in on the public rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat to devices later this summer, today we're releasing DeveloperPreview 5, the last milestone of this preview series. Last month's Developer Preview included the final APIs for Nougat; this preview gives developers the near-final system updates for all of the supported preview devices, helping you get your app ready for consumers," said the official announcement of the final release.

It also enumerated the things included in the release, which include:

  • System images for Nexus and other preview devices
  • An emulator that you can use for doing the final testing of your apps to make sure they are ready
  • The final N APIs (API level 24) and latest system behaviors and UI
  • The latest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and in preinstalled apps

Google previously announced that Android 7.0 Nougat could possibly be released by Q3, and the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be the first to receive it since it will be supported until September 2017. The two devices will even receive next year's Android O. Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 will also receive Android Nougat, but not Android O. Previous Nexus devices will not receive an upgrade officially, PC Advisor reported.

Know Your Mobile also mentioned that there is a possibility that Android Nougat could arrive by August at the earliest. It also added that LG and Samsung devices might be the first non-Nexus devices to receive the upcoming operating system, which might happen by early next year. However, Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 may arrive with it already.

A previous report mentioned that Sony's top-tier smart phones, the Xperia Z series, could possibly get the upgrade as well. Sony may start with its Z5 series, followed by the Z4 , down to the Xperia Z2. Older models, unfortunately, may not receive Android N.

Android fans are currently waiting for the next official announcement.
