Anglican musician sets Eucharist to music

|PIC1|What connects 60s classics from the Bee Gees, a vicar's dog collar and an award winning radio show? The answer, John Pantry.

The producer and musician will be releasing a new album, God Of The Empty Space with Christian record label Kingsway Music this June. At the same time a book of the choral arrangements of the songs will be published by the Royal School of Church Music. This will be his first recording since 2000.

"I was prompted by the team leader at my home church to develop a project that had been on my mind for some time. The idea was to set The Benedictus to music, which was swiftly followed by The Gloria, the Nunc Dimittis and many others," Pantry said.

"The Royal School of Church Music decided that they wanted to publish the material and along with arranger Christopher Norton we recorded and produced the album God Of The Empty Space, which will be released by Kingsway Music in June."

Prof Dr Noël Tredinnick of the All Souls Orchestra has commended God Of The Empty Space, calling the album "fresh and vibrant".

He went on to add, "My desire is to recommend this whole cycle of songs most highly indeed - to all, young in heart, with a desire to explore fresh expressions of worship in song."

Originally a recording engineer, John Pantry worked on many hit albums and singles albums for the Bee Gees, Manfred Man and the Small Faces. He wrote songs for TV commercials and even penned a single for Barbara Windsor going on to help create the early albums of artists like Graham Kendrick and Parchment. In 1978 he began writing and recording himself, producing a dozen self-penned albums and touring extensively.

He is best known for his songs like 'Wonderful Grace' and 'Send Me Out From Here' and his albums continue to be in demand.

Later, he trained to be a Church of England Minister and then joined Premier Christian Radio, alongside presenters Cindy Kent and Rick Easter. John Pantry heads up music selection for the radio station and presents the programme Inspirational Breakfast requiring him to wake every week day at 4 am.
